Thats 4 exclamations in one title! Yes, thats right, the game that we put so much of our lives into has been recognised with a nomination for best game at the BAFTA Scotland awards. Its on tonight so fingers crossed we get it. We have a small army poised near the awards ceremony to unleash much drunkenness upon Glasgow should we get that coveted award, and if not, well they aren't the types to let drunkeness go to waste!

Windows 7 Issue

Everything is going sweet, it runs fast, nothing locks up, the features all work well.

So I'm playing with the new library feature (this essentially takes out the pain in the arse media sharing stuff out of media player, tidies it up, ans makes it an integrated part of the OS). It works with external drives apparently, so I add the video folder from my big media drive...

Then windows start to go a bit wonky.

My Computer wouldn't show any icons, and all the other folders just had hourglass animations on them. At no point does it freeze however, and I can easily start firefox to see what the hell is going on. The problems seems to be 'dllhost', its using half the CPU and its making explorer balk.

It seems that by adding the folder it decided to create thumbnails for all the files (I've not installed any codecs yet btw.) after about 2 mins all was back to normal and I had a bunch of thumbnails for my files (377 Gigs worth).

That the only issue I've had so far, everything else is working flawlessly and just feels so responsive.

Melbourne House, the company that helped a young retard learn how to break his spectrum, and how to make it show pretty colours on the TV, are no more. The collosal shite machine that is Atari are ploughing their fields of poorly sewn manure and are ripping up the history of computer games as it does so.

The company responsible for great programming books such as 'Over the Spectrum', 'Super Charge your Spectrum', and 'Advanced Spectrum Machine Language' (One of which still sits on my bookshelf looking very used) have been sold off by Atari to Krome Studios and must now go under the embrassing moniker of 'Krome Studios Melbourne'. No offense meant towards Krome, its just, you can't just go and rename a company who figure so much in the history of computer games.

For those who don't realise what Melbourne House games they have played heres a quick run-down of some of their most classic works:

Way of the exploding fist. (Spectrum / C64 / etc..)
The definitive beat-em-up. Before Street Fighter was a bloody glint in the postmans eye, WOTEF was allowing the hardcore to alienate all their friends, not letting them get one punch in and generally showing them up.
Transformers. (PS2)
Easily one of my favourite games on the Playstation2. Melbourne House show how technically proficient they are by pushing the PS2 to near breaking point. In a game where you control a giant robot that can transform at any moment into a vehicle, it's probably not that difficult to please, but the game takes it so much further making it a genuinely engrossing game (even if the character selection was a bit poo).
KKND. (PC)
Post-Apocalyptic RTS. Perhaps not quite as good as Red Alert but the graphics were absolutely georgeous. As close to a Mad Max RTS as you are gonna get. If you have a copy gathering dust in a drawer, I recommended you fire that bad boy up.
Redhawk. (Spectrum / C64 / etc..)
Mild, meek and very wimpish Kevin Oliver awakes outside a hospital with absolutely no memory at all. The puzzled reporter searches his synapses and finds three words: two of them make up his name, while the third is puzzlingly meaningless - 'KWAH'.
Penatrator. (Spectrum / C64)
What. A. Name.
Terrormelinos. (Spectrum / C64 / etc..)
Seriously, I'm not joking.

Okay, so maybe not all their games were classics, but they definitely deserve to be celebrated. Without their technical books I wouldn't be doing what I do today. So I can only hope that some bright spark at Krome has the notion to put the Hellboy game their way, that would almost make up for the loss of the name.

Driller killer is an unmistakable pile of shit bricks. Totally inept on all accounts, and generally not worthy of its notoriety. Its only remeeming feature is the DVD commentary where Abel Ferrara seems to go insane and starts saying 'Time to die..' repeatedly in his best creepy voice.

Anyway, it seems its now public domain so anyone can watch it for free. I dare you to try and watch it and see how long it takes before you fall asleep. There quite a few gems that are also free, but they are free cos-they-is-ace-and-i-loves-them-i-do. Night of the living dead is definitely worth a look if not for being the film to introduce the zombie hordes to our eyeballs, but one to do it with social commentary and in 1968.

I digress.. Driller killer is teh suxxors.

Sony have stated that due to the manufacturing problems with the laser diodes, there will only be 500,000 available at the Nov 17th launch.

400,000 for the US
100,000 for Japan
0 for Europe because Sony hates us.

Perhaps if Sony had started building the bloody things a little sooner, we might not have these problems.

The PS3 launch date has been pushed back in europe to March 2007. Despite Sonys obvious hatred of all things european, this still comes as a surprise. This will cut out the Christmas market entirely handing an almost 12-month advantage to 360 and wii.

Theres loads more bile to spew on the subject but I'll leave that to the whoreds of comments posters on the relative game sites
